Therapy is a dynamic experience between yourself and the therapist. Although you may be living in a difficult situation, or are trying to cope with a troubled past, therapy can help guide you towards acceptance, strength, and empowerment. In some cases, the situation cannot change but through the therapeutic process, your experience of that situation can change.

Within the practice, it is important to create a safe environment for confidentiality so you can express what you really think and feel. When our thoughts, feelings, and experiences are fully heard and accepted, an opportunity arises for transformation at the deepest core level. Through the experience, you can often realize your deepest truths and see your understanding of self and choices more clearly.

Much of what happens in therapy is processed outside of the session time. The therapy sessions enable you to consider and explore what you are facing in your life.

I have a passion for people to understand and explore the challenges they face in their lives. My approach to life and life issues is from a compassionate stance. When people feel disconnected from their lives, the goal of therapy is to enable them to explore what is happening, so that they can reconnect with themselves in a way that enhances their well-being.

My therapeutic approach is based on a holistic perspective of the individual – physical, psychological, social, and spiritual – recognizing that each of these plays a part in mental wellness. My approach to therapy is informed by integrating strategies from a range of theories, including: interpersonal, developmental, cognitive-behavioural, psychodynamic, and systems. Through therapy, the more conscious we become of our unconscious tendencies, the more we are equipped to make better choices and act appropriately. If we do not recognize the negative forces in our psyche, we will continue to project them, and the unconscious awareness will continue.

To be a continuous learner is important in my growth, both personally and professionally, in order to be the best for myself and my clients. My educational background is in the study of psychotherapy, spirituality, and theology.

My vocational background includes a practice in clinical therapy, business management, and teaching in a university and college setting. I have had the opportunity to work with The Centre for Family Medicine & Family Health Team (CFFM) and Interfaith Pastoral Counselling Centre, working with individuals, couples, and families.

My professional affiliations are with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario and the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association.
